Since 2020, I’ve been revisiting watercolor painting, something I did long ago as a junior high student.
Learning to do a creative thing is more than a little scary, and yes I understand the irony of that statement: I studied and played piano starting in fifth grade. So the uncomfortable part of exposing oneself as a creative is well ingrained.
This year, our holiday card is simple, but for me that simple design represents some newly practiced techniques. I’ve been experimenting with mixing my own colors and green has been my nemesis. One would think mixing yellow and blue would not be that challenging, but for me, it has been. So looking at the range of greens in our holiday card represents growth. Sometimes simple does not mean easy.
As Adrien often tells me, I may be one of the last hold-outs to sending holiday greetings to friends and family; that is probably true. For me, sending cards, will continue to be part of my holiday season though, it’s old-fashioned, but it is a connection to people who have been an influence in my life. It’s my way of saying I remember.
And while this post is kind of wandering, our wish for you is this: may the peace of the season sustain you and yours throughout the coming year.
